Buffalo Girls

Buffalo Girls are Silver Summers , Baga Chipz Mbe and Lady Lloyd.

In this video, they cover Blondie -- and I think they are fabulous.

I can't wait to see more from them.

This pic of Silver Summers is from her Flickr page:

All Fired Up!

And here's Lady Lloyd from hers:

Guitarist & Vocalist: Yohio

YOHIO

Yohio is a young Swede who is becoming a Japanese pop star -- by design. One journalist described Yohio as a performer who "dresses like Lolita, and plays guitar like Hendrix." In the band Seremedy, Yohio is the primary guitarist. But as a solo artist, multi-talented Yohio both plays guitar and sings.

Here's a typical video:

In one new video, Yohio sings in English, so look for this talented performer on your televisions soon.

The Honeytraps: "Wishing" video

In 2006, Channel 4 in the UK televised a 6 episode television show with a them very much like the intent of this blog. This is from the IMDB page about the show:
Former 80's boyband star Nathan Moore and music industry guru Olivier Bezardi want to pull off one the most audacious stunts in the history of pop: passing off a bunch of former male stars as a hot new girlband.

Here's the video that concluded the show:

Bass player: Teresa Ann Weldon

Teresa Ann Weldon is a bass player sometimes known as "Bitchinmona." On her yahoo website, she includes pictures of herself playing bass -- fronting one of her bands -- on Halloween, 2003. The photo on the right is from that set.

Check out her myspace page for more recent photos.

Teresa Ann describes herself on her livejournal bio:
I'm a musician--I play bass and sing in my band, themiddlefork. I'm an artist (computer graphics, paint). I'm a writer (when the notion hits me). Oh, and I make one fine-ass chick.
On themiddlefork site, she wrote:
"My main goal in any artistic endeavor (say that 3 times fast!) is disturbing humor. I want to make someone laugh and shiver at the same time."
That's the spirit of The Cover Gurlz!

Drummer: Lilith LaCroix

One potential drummer for The Cover Gurlz is Lilith LaCroix who "has been described as Sheila E meets Priscilla Queen of the Desert - she's New Zealand's own drumming drag queen, and she's loved by all as a national treasure."

Lilith has released a CD called "I Wonder" (pictured at right) and youtube hosts some terrific video of her performing live.

As Lilith has previously explained, a project like The Cover Girls can prove irrisistible: "Drag is like the car accident of performance. No matter how horrific is seems, you have to stop and have a look."

In one interview, Lilith explained the appeal of drag drumming:
“I've always loved female percussionists,” says Farr. “I guess it's got something to do with the underdog thing – that you just never used to see them. Many of my teachers have been female percussionists. There's also something incredibly sexy about women playing percussion
Lilith LaCroix is talented and beautiful, which easily makes her a prospective member of The Cover Gurlz.

Agreed?

Introductory post

This blog is about a band called The Cover Gurlz.

Never heard of them?

Well, that's probably because they do not exist -- at least not yet.

This space will propose the creation of a band called The Cover Gurlz. In all probability, the musicians under consideration will never have met, and may not even have heard of one other. Who knows, it may only exist in cyberspace.

Web surfers can think of this blog as on-line version of one of these television shows that create a new band. The blog will be considering various singers, guitar players, drummers, and so on.

Admittedly, this blog is as much a marketing plan as anything else.

Just like those TV programs.

So, what is the marketing gimmick?

Well, every musician in this band will look like a cover girl -- an attractive model who helps "sell" the idea of the band.

Also, this band will play songs previously made famous by female artists and groups. They'll play "covers."

And finally, the gurlz in the band will themselves be under-cover.

Not just under the cover of makeup or costumes. All the musicians will actually be boys, undercover as gurlz.
