Singer: Sissy DéBut

Sissy DéBut is an eclectic singer from "the mountains of Carolina" now living in LA. Her myspace page includes several songs that reveal the range and depth of her lovely voice. That page also hosts a number of photos, including the "rocker chick" pic featured above.

This video of her singing "Ten Cents a Dance" reflects her "pop sensibilities," which make her a perfect potential Cover Gurl:

Sadly, the video is kind of grainy and often dark.
But the sound quality is pretty good.

By the way, Sissy is already a member of a supergroup -- the FairyTails with Roxy Wood (visit her myspace page) and Maximilliana. Maybe they're all potential Cover Gurlz! A little bit country, a little bit Motown, and a lot of LA. That could work.

Singer: Amber Taylor

Amber Taylor is the lead singer for an Atlanta-based band called the Sexual Side Effects.

One of the band's songs is called "I’m In Love With A Girl (But She Used To Be A Man)." As she sings, "somewhere in between she had a change of plans."

Amber calls herself a "transgenderbender," and the photos certainly reflect her feminine mystique. The band's myspace page reveals that "her dad was King of Texas, and her mom was David Bowie."

This is an excerpt from a recent review of a Sexual Side Effects stage show:
Amber, in her element, embraced her audience and rose far beyond the expectation. The new tracks were sultry and seductive, the band tight as a baby's butt. The fans loved it, we loved it and we cannot wait to see the Sexual Side Effects Again. Bravo.
Sounds like a beautiful potential member of The Cover Gurlz!

Dancer: Chase Johnsey

The Cover Gurlz are a pop-rock band, but membership is open to classically trained artists. And every important girl group needs some good dancers. Right?

Chase Johnsey was named by Dance magazine in January 2008 as one of 25 to watch.
Johnsey (aka Yakatarina Verbosovitch and her danseur alter-ego Roland Daulin) uses his brilliant technique and delicate quality to blur gender lines to the point of spooky illusion. The petite 22-year-old, Florida-born, diva is so convincing that if you plunked him down into the cast of ABT’s La Bayadère as one of the Shades, no one would blink an eyelash... the performance is more than a little mind-blowing.
Some reviewers are more direct: "you'd never mistake Yakatarina Verbosovich (Chase Johnsey) for a dude with that cover-girl smile." The Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo dance company's artist director Tory Dobrin remarks, "Chase Johnsey, who's young, looks like a woman or a young girl."

Do we agree? This is a link to an official publicity photo.

In July 2007, Chase commented on dance as art and work:
I dance as my job. Dance is my biggest form of expression. People clap because of my physical interpretation of my own feelings. People pay to come see the show i perform in.. and they get to witness me. ( i am not famous i am not saying that, but they do come see the show) As a performer a person must be completely themselves.
Sounds perfect for The Cover Gurlz!

I think Chase is featured in some of this video.

September 18, 2008 Update: You're going to want to meet "new internet diva" Serenity -- and watch her videos.

Singer: LaLa McCallan

Italian diva LaLa McCallan has a vocal range across three octaves. She sings a wide variety of styles: jazz, pop standards -- even opera. In the photo at right, she is performing in "LaLa and All That Jazz."

LaLa has posted video of herself singing Carole King's "Natural Woman" in English and "Casta Diva." You can also watch a brief English language interview with the singer.

According to her website, LaLa moved to London in 1996
to study at Mountview Theater School where he graduated in Musical Theater. After the first professional engagements in Great Britain, Daniel successfully auditioned for a series of revue shows with Royal Caribbean International. In the following years, he moved on to Celebrity Cruises Inc, and travelled through half the planet as lead singer of no less than 14 musical revue shows.
In 2003, she returned to her native Italy and performed in a number of revue shows, three concert series and a touring production of "Jesus Christ Superstar."

As her website proclaims, LaLa has an "endearing self mocking sense of humour" that makes her a prime candidate for The Cover Gurlz. As the photo below reveals, the Diva is also known for her fabulously extravagant wig designs. Find more photos like this on her website gallery:

Singer: Bassem Feghali

Bassem Feghali may be the best female impersonator in the world, but few Americans probably know it because this drag personality performs primarily in the Middle East and mimics beautiful female singers from that region -- including Nancy Ajram and Haifa Wehbe.

Bassem's singing and dancing talent is obvious (just check out the large number of entertaining youtube videos), and the verbal comedic aspects of his act are also said to be first-rate.

Take note: Bassem has imitated Madonna and Shakira and recently made a DVD in Hollywood, so he may be appearing soon on a television near you.

Bassem has a worldwide fan base, but "avoids interviews...he prefers that his talent and performances leave their effects in people's hearts, not what he says about his career."

The singer's website declares that Bassem "is a protector of originality, glamour and comedy...DIVAS are back...everything is possible."

That's the spirit of The Cover Gurlz!

Bass player: Teresa Ann Weldon

Teresa Ann Weldon is a bass player sometimes known as "Bitchinmona." On her yahoo website, she includes pictures of herself playing bass -- fronting one of her bands -- on Halloween, 2003. The photo on the right is from that set.

Check out her myspace page for more recent photos.

Teresa Ann describes herself on her livejournal bio:
I'm a musician--I play bass and sing in my band, themiddlefork. I'm an artist (computer graphics, paint). I'm a writer (when the notion hits me). Oh, and I make one fine-ass chick.
On themiddlefork site, she wrote:
"My main goal in any artistic endeavor (say that 3 times fast!) is disturbing humor. I want to make someone laugh and shiver at the same time."
That's the spirit of The Cover Gurlz!
